The project

Everyday Programmer is the engineering publication from the founder of JGDesigns. It turns lessons from production software, design systems, and AI-assisted work into a useful place for working developers to read and return to. The design gives technical ideas room to breathe while connecting articles, topic collections, field notes, and the person behind the work.

Challenge

Create a publication with a clear point of view and enough structure to support different kinds of technical content. Readers needed to understand what the site offers, find a relevant topic, and settle into an article without a crowded interface competing for their attention.

Approach

  • Developed an editorial visual system with strong type hierarchy, generous spacing, warm amber accents, and light and dark themes. Code-inspired concept panels make the subject matter visible from the first screen.
  • Organized discovery around the work developers do: design systems, frontend architecture, AI workflows, debugging, and career field notes. Articles, systems, and kits each have a clear place in the navigation.
  • Connected the homepage and article experience to newsletter sign-up, an author introduction, and a work-with-Jimmy path. Responsive layouts keep the same reading and discovery priorities on smaller screens.

Outcomes

Delivered a live engineering publication with a consistent design across the homepage, topic collections, and article pages.Created clear paths from a first visit to a relevant article, the newsletter, or more information about the author.Built a recognizable home for ongoing publishing, with room for practical resources and new content as they become available.
